AUth (The Department of Archaeology - Aristotle University of Thessaloniki )

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) was founded in 1926, has 41 Faculties and Schools offering all kinds of studies in a vast array of scientific fields, ranging from natural and technological to social and health sciences, arts and humanities. It hosts about 81,500 students (72,140 in undergraduate programmes and 8,360 in postgraduate programmes). The University aims to offer equal opportunities for learning, research and communication; it supports research projects in a wide variety of disciplines, promotes interdisciplinary cooperation, participates in European research programmes and projects, cooperates with international institutions and organizations, and attracts researchers from within Greece and abroad.
The Department of Archaeology consists of 20 professors, undertakes 20 excavations and has more or less 2,000 undergraduate, master and PhD students. The Department specializes in different thematic aspects of archaeology, namely Prehistoric, Classical and Byzantine archaeology, but covers also other themes such as Bioarchaeology, Museology etc. The department has its own cast museum and organizes each year the meeting for Archaeological Works in Macedonia and Thrace.
